In the old days, back when L.A. County's Metro rail network was just a $15 billion glint in planners' eyes, the Artists' Inn and Cottage B & B was four miles south of "Old Pasadena" and driving was the only way to get there.

How times have changed... The Inn hasn't moved, of course. But Old Town (as locals call it) has exploded into one of the most vibrant and exciting dining, shopping and entertainment centers in all of California.

And the new Metro has made it just a few minutes' walk away from the best B & B west of the Rockies!

South Pasadena has some wonderful attractions all its own and guests at the Artists' Inn can find a wealth of things to do here in our own backyard without having to pony up for rail fare.

But folks in the mood for a choice between over a hundred restaurants and almost as many stores can hop on an air-conditioned Gold Line train at Mission Station, five minutes' walk from the Inn's front steps.

Hop off three stops up the line at Memorial Park Station and Old Town Pasadena spreads out to the south and east with an array of attractions befitting the ultimate urban playground!

Turn left at the top of the Memorial Park Station steps, walk a couple of blocks and hang a right in front of City Hall, and you'll be close to what could be called New Town Pasadena.

The breathtaking new Paseo, which replaces the tired old indoor mall once bordered by Colorado, Marengo, Green and Los Robles, offers a whole different selection of options. Among them is a 14-screen cineplex, and a concourse that's filled with live music, evenings and weekends.

Memorial Park Station has about 30 movie screens close by and the Gold Line offers access to a couple of dozen more near Lake and Sierra Madre stations.

Small wonder that here at the Artists' Inn and Cottage B & B, we're big fans of the light rail system in spite of its controversial bells and whistles and shake, rattle and roll!
