If you love the movies...
![]() Never mind that South Pasadena, Pasadena, San Marino and cities all around are constantly in demand as locations for movies being filmed...we also happen to be a major hotspot for viewing the finished product. South Pasadena has its own revered Rialto on Fair Oaks, just around the corner from the Artists' Inn. It's one of the premier showcases for classic films in all of L.A. County. |
But
there are dozens of screens within easy reach of the
Artists' Inn B & B
offering new releases and classics in a variety of environments. And all can be reached on the area's new Gold Line light rail system, meaning that dinner and a movie no longer has to include a drawn-out hunt for expensive parking! Think about it: A weekend getaway that gives you a chance to catch up on some of the movies that somehow you keep missing back home! |
Mission Station on the Gold Line is barely five minutes' walk from the Artists' Inn. Three stops up the line is Memorial Park Station, which has 27 screens within strolling distance. Cream of the crop is Pacific Paseo Stadium 14, a state-of-the-art facility that's more expensive than most but worth the extra ticket price, we think. Old Town Pasadena has two cinemas: UA Pasadena Marketplace, featuring mainstream new releases, and Laemmle's - One Colorado, which books so-called "art house" films. Lake Station on the Metro is close to Academy 6 at Colorado and Catalina, another magnet for aficionados of low-budget and foreign movies. And two blocks in the opposite direction (west) along Colorado Boulevard at El Molino is Laemmle's Playhouse 7, also featuring films to make you think a little more while you munch your popcorn! | Finally (just because it's a little further away) there's Pacific's big, old-fashioned—and superbly comfortable—Hastings Theater, which showcases all the latest releases and is about a 10-minute walk from Sierra Madre Villa Station on the Gold Line. Like all the other theaters in our extended neighborhood, this one is close to a wide variety of restaurants. Dinner and a movie costs a whole lot more than it used to, but so does everything else and it's still a tough-to-beat night out! Near the Hastings Theater, look for Islands, Maria's, Kabuki and Yamaha in the Hastings Center. Walking from Lake Station to either the Academy 6 (left on Colorado and Lake) or Playhouse 7 (right on Colorado) there's Indian, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese to choose from. There's even Wolf Burger, the best burger joint in Pasadena! The new Paseo shopping and dining center on the edge of Old Town has numerous fine restaurants surrounding Pacific's gleaming 14-screen cinema, and the two Old Pasadena theaters are similarly blessed with nearby places to dine. Choice isn't the problem, and thanks to the Gold Line, parking isn't either. Paying for all that gourmet food and great entertainment may be another thing...but hey, you're on vacation, and you deserve a special treat! | ||
